The Saint Louis Attractions Association has awarded scholarships to qualified students interested in pursuing careers in the tourism and hospitality industry since 1991. The Carole Moody Scholarship is named for founding Attractions Association member Carole Moody, in recognition of her nearly 30 years of contributions to the tourism and hospitality industry. Since 1991, 39 students have benefited from more than $30,000 in scholarship funds from the Saint Louis Attractions Association Scholarship Program.
Each year the Association holds a Silent Auction to raise money to build the scholarship fund. A committee of volunteers help to organize the event and with the generosity of our members who support the event we are able to provide a scholarship each year to one or more deserving students.
The scholarship is open to any undergraduate college student or high school senior entering college majoring in a field that could contribute to the tourism or hospitality industry.
This year the scholarship recipient was Sarah Ann Minier, a 2015 graduate from Marquette Catholic High School in Alton and is currently studying Mass Communications with an emphasis in Media Advertising at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She is also pursuing a minor in Fine Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Photography. After she graduates, she would like to use her degrees to continue working in the tourism industry. She is currently a marketing and communication intern with the Gateway Arch in the Tourism Innovation Department and has been involved in the process of the re-branding of the Gateway Arch National Park leading up to the grand opening of the museum in July. She is also doing an internship this summer with The Fabulous Fox Theatre. She’s one busy lady!
Thank you again to all of our members who support the scholarship program through the Silent Auction and your contributions!
