ILLINOIS CAVERNS REOPEN FOR THE SEASON
For an outdoor adventure unlike any other in the Metro Area, plan a visit to the Illinois Caverns in rural Monroe County. Located near Waterloo, the Illinois Caverns are a 35-mile drive south of St. Louis. This is a true ‘caving’ experience, so items such as boots, a helmet, and three battery operated forms of light are required. Visitors must also fill out a cave permit and enter the Illinois Caverns in a group of at least four people. Most certainly make sure to take a camera because the natural beauty is amazing! The Caverns are open Wednesday-Sunday from April through October. For an in-depth look at what you can experience, check out ILLINOISouth Tourism’s trip into the Illinois Caverns HERE.
