During SLAA’s May Luncheon the 2023 Winners of the Carole Moody Scholarship and Spirit of St. Louis Awards were announced.
Started in 1991 and named after founding member Carole Moody, the scholarship is awarded to any high school senior or college undergraduate entering a field that could contribute to the tourism or hospitality industry. This year two students were chosen from the submitted nominations. Congratulations to Lonjay Hemphill and Nathan Eigelbeger, who each received a $750 scholarship towards their education.

The Spirit of St. Louis Awards were also awarded honoring those individuals and attractions that have gone the extra mile.
Meg Dietrich from the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis received the Individual Award for her prefect example of the Midwest positive attitude that greets tourists with a never-ending smile and enthusiasm and leaves a lasting impact on visitors to St. Louis.
The Program Award was presented to Great Rivers Greenway for their work and contraction of the Pillars of the Valley monument to commemorate the displaced, predominantly Black community of the demolished Mill Creek Valley neighborhood.
Dave Sanders with Bi-State Development’s Tourism Innovation received the Hall of Fame Award for his 25 years of involvement at the Gateway Arch and riverboats creating steadfast growth, many partnerships, innovations, and countless other successful projects.
